The Writer’s Struggles!

Waaa! What is this thing you like doing? What a question! But what else…? writing offcourse! Sounds funny but it really fascinates me. I like writing.

And note that writing is more than stringing words together. It’s the art of communication, expression, and connection. Whether it’s a novel, poem, academic article, blog post, or speech, writing gives shape to thought. Writing allows ideas to travel through time, reaching readers far removed from the writer’s life or context.

Writing is the act of expressing thoughts, ideas, feelings, and information through structured language. The purpose of writing is to:
• Communicate across distance and time
• Preserve knowledge
• Inspire, persuade, or entertain
• Reflect on life, society, and self

Writing involves:
• Creativity. generating ideas, imagining worlds
• Clarity. Communicating those ideas effectively.
• Structure. Organizing thoughts logically
• Voice. Expressing a unique perspective
• Good writing is intentional. It carries structure, rhythm, and voice.
• Great writing evokes emotion, shifts perspectives, or simply makes someone feel seen or understood.

What makes a good writer?
A good writer is:

• Observant. Sees things others miss and captures them vividly.
• Disciplined. Writes regularly, revises ruthlessly.
• Empathetic. Understands characters, people, and readers.
• Curious. Constantly learning about language, subjects, and craft.
• Fearless. Willing to write badly at first to eventually write well.
• Writers are often readers first: They draw inspiration from books, life, nature, conversations, or silence. They see writing as therapy, a mirror or even a rebellion.

The writer’s struggles
Even the best writers wrestle with:

1. Writer’s block. This is the paralysis that happens when the words just won’t come. It is caused  by:

• Fear of imperfection
• Overthinking
• Pressure to meet expectations
• Lack of inspiration or emotional energy

2. Self-doubt. Writers often question whether they good enough. Whether what they write make sense or whether someone will care.

3. Perfectionism. Writers try to get it just right. They endlessly rewrite. They abandon drafts. They fear finishing!

5. Rejection. Most writers face rejected manuscripts, harsh criticism and indifference from readers.

6. Isolation. Writing is typically solitary. Without support or feedback, a writer can feel unseen, unappreciated, and misunderstood

…but they keep writing. Why? Writing can be a calling. It can be a form of truth-telling. It is even a quiet act of rebellion in a noisy world.
As noted by Maya Angelou there is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside you.

C.S. Lewis says that you can make anything by writing.
